Everyone has a different way of categorising bags, so here's how we do it from small to large: clutch bags/purses, across-body bags, hand-held handle bags, shoulder/shopper bags and holdalls.

The clutch is a small bag with no handles for keeping your essentials in. The across-body bag is also a small bag often similar sized to a clutch bag but with a long strap so you can wear it over the opposing shoulder. The hand-held handle bag is a typical bag, mid-sized with a handle or handles. The shoulder/shopper bag (also known as tote bag) has longer handles so you can either carry it or wear it over your shoulder and is often slightly larger.. The holdall again has handles and is larger again.
