Women's Berets

Women’s Berets are a popular traditional fashion accessory which was traditionally worn in France by both men and women. A flat cap made from wool felt that is widely used throughout the military service for elite squads. Mostly popular in the Southern Region of France around the Pyrenees however nowadays the trend is well-established throughout Europe including countries such as Italy, Holland, England and also the United States. 

Berets are designed to fit snugly on the head and usually worn draped to one side; however in France they tend to wear it slightly straighter with the point above the crown. Traditional woollen berets have an additional inch of excess material to act as a headband and to offer a more comfortable fit. When placing on head it is intended to be folded inwards so that it can wrap around the forehead to secure its fitment.

Women often wear berets during the winter and tend to mix together with a brightly coloured double breasted long jacket, although berets can easily be worn with a loose top and tight jean. Television programmes such as ‘Sex and the City’ saw characters like Sarah Jessica Parker and Kim Cattrall wearing the rather understated fashion accessory to jazz up their outfit.
